Project “Eco Flettner”

Since 2011 we are working together with other companies and institutions on the MariTIM project in the development of innovative lightweight high-performance sail rotors for coast shipping.

The INTERREG project MariTIM is one of the twelve sub-projects of MariGreen, a major cross-border project for the development and implementation of GreenShipping technologies and developments in the German-Dutch border region.

Over the years, the project resulted in the Eco-Flettner, an efficient auxiliary drive for seagoing vessels, which will be used for shipping traffic in the future. Innovations and technical progress have set new standards in the field of wind propulsion technology. The clearly defined ultimate goal is to make emission reductions possible in order to meet the goals of European maritime policy for 2020.

The excellent project results of the Eco Flettner have far exceeded the expectations of all participants. In order to make this innovative auxiliary drive available on the market, the project was transferred into a collecting society after its official completion on June 30th, 2019. The ECO FLETTNER GmbH, of which Dirks Elektrotechnik is also a shareholder, is now responsible for the further development, manufacture, installation and commissioning of the rotor and, of course, for its worldwide distribution.
